LeaderMan Vs. Servant Leader

Posted in life, links, religion by amoslanka on September 10, 2008

Brant Hanson is one blogger I follow closely. Yesterday Brant wrote a post about leadership, specifically about the difference between “LeaderMan” and a true servant leader. The LeaderMan is like the superhero with an agenda, kind of like Captain Hammer on Dr. Horrible’s Sign-Along Blog while the true servant leader quite subtle and genuine. Sounds a lot like the concrete ideas of Love I’ve been looking for illustrations of. Brant’s comparisons are quite profound, so I’ll list a few here, but please visit Brant’s blog and while you’re at it, subscribe to his RSS, he’s well worth keeping up with.

Servant Leader:  Has something to say

LeaderMan:  Wants a platform on which to say something

LeaderMan: Wants you to know he’s a Leader

Servant Leader:  You’re not sure he knows he’s a leader

LeaderMan:  Gets together with you to talk about his vision

Servant Leader:  Just gets together with you

LeaderMan:  Helps you find where God is leading you in his organization

Servant Leader:  Helps you find where God is leading you

LeaderMan:  Impressed by success and successful people

Servant Leader:  Impressed by faithfulness

LeaderMan:  Reveals sins of his past

Servant Leader:  Reveals sins of his present

LeaderMan:  Leads because of official position

Servant Leader:  Leads in spite of position
